I want to introduce you to the people who mean the most to me and help keep me sane, most of the time!
I will start out with my fiance, Tyler. We have been together for nearly 6 years and have been engaged for about 2 and a half. We like to joke and say we are eternally engaged. We dated some throughout highschool, but by the time our junior year rolled around we were in serious relationships with other people. The summer after highschool graduation we both found ourselves single around the same time and we started dating again.
About a month into our rekindled relationship Tyler had a major car accident. Like we didn't know if he would make it and if he did would he be able to walk or even remember who we are. He ended up breaking his neck, the C1 and C2 vertabrae, he had severe head trauma, and was bruised and swollen from head to toe.
I couldn't begin to prepare myself enough for what I was going to see when I walked into is ICU room. I can still feel the hurt, the anxiety, and the absolute total fear I had seeing him for the first time. I walked in and squeezed his hand, whispered "I love you", and then had to run to the nearest restroom because it made me physically sick to see him in such bad shape. He was in a halo for 3 months and in the hospital for about a month. When he woke up from his medically induced coma about a week later we both knew we couldn't do this alone. He reached his arms out to me and pulled me close to him telling me that his biggest fear was not seeing me again. All he could do was rub my hair and my face and tell me he loved me, and to this day every time I think of that crucial and defining moment in our relationship it brings tears to my eyes. That was a turning point for us. We both knew right then and there that we were in it for the long haul.
Tyler's recovery was quicker than the doctors had thought it would be. He is definitely a fighter and looking at him today it is hard to believe that he was ever in that position. He is stronger and better than he was before the wreck.
This man has been my rock through some bad times and has been my partner in crime in the fun times. Not sure where I would be without him and his love.
aw, I love a good love story! yours made me tear up!
